For a school like Shenendehowa it’s common for athletes to take the next step and compete at the collegiate level. This year Shen had 79 athletes commit to play in college. Hopefully this tradition of having many athletes move to the next level continues. But it’s the work that the athletes put in that matter. As well as what advice the current athletes have for the next generation.
The athletes have all been training hard and are excited to play in college.
According to Matt Tomaszewski who will be playing football for the United States Naval Academy in the fall. He has been getting ready for college football for many years now.
“Im very excited and ready to go, Im sure there will be other good competition but I’m excited to see what I can do.” said Tomaszewski.
Tomaszewski says “ I have been staying consistent with training which is composed of lifting, running, jumping, stretching and eating well.”
Brett Steiner, who will be playing football for Endicott college in the fall, has had to face his share of adversity with a torn ACL last season. But he has persevered.
Steiner said “I have been rehabbing to get ready for college, I keep lifting and I keep running to get stronger and faster.”
“ I’m excited! This will be a good opportunity and I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”said Steiner
Sophia Clenny who will be playing volleyball at SUNY New Paltz. Has been lifting, working out and staying active to get ready for college.
“I am really excited, it’s going to be fun,” said Clenny.
As young athletes looking to take the next step the process could be intimidating. But these athletes have some good advice for the next generation.
“Don’t get in your head, just keep fighting, just keep pushing through” Said Clenny
“I’d say just enjoy all the time you have in highschool and really focus on learning and developing as a player.” Said Steiner.
“The biggest piece of advice that I can give is being consistent everyday with what you are doing. Consistency means that you’re doing it everyday, weekly. You’re doing your lift, you are not skipping workouts, you’re eating good, good sleep. Just being consistent.” said Tomaszewski
