The boys Varsity baseball program has seen a drop in wins over the past three seasons, falling from 20-8 in the 2023-24 season and then 11-9 last season and currently with a losing record this spring season.
After having several years of winning records, Varsity team members say they have faced a more difficult season this year due to multiple factors.
Senior captain Carter Toth said, “there is great competition throughout the league, not just a few teams being competitive but its everyone this year.”
Competition isn’t the only factor playing into this season, but overall players think they need to focus in on their hitting in the final stretch to expand their season.
According to Toth, “the team as a whole has struggled putting together hits.”
Starting catcher and captain Brayden Williams agreed with Toth’s comment.
“Our pitching is definitely there but we need more offense where we can get extra hits and score more runs each game. This starts outside of games where we need to practice hitting gaps in the field and getting baserunners and then being able to score those baserunners,” said Williams.
Players say they are not worried about their chemistry on and off the field within the organization.
“I personally feel this seasons chemistry is 100X better these last year. We might not have a better record but I’d rather go to war w these boys over previous years,” said Williams.
“Everyone can see their team record but people don’t understand the full story,” said Toth. “We’ve been in a lot of close battles that we just came short of winning. We mesh together really well as people, the culture is great, and it makes it enjoyable to be there day in and day out, regardless of whether we win or lose.”
Despite the regular season record, players are hopeful that things will click more just in time for playoffs since all teams make it.
“Hopefully bats start coming alive in playoff time since it’s all about getting hot at the right time,” said Toth.
The mindset seems to be the same among the players.
“We have to lock in for playoffs,” said Williams.
