After defeating rival Saratoga on Wednesday, Shen’s Varsity Hockey team is playing for the Section II Championship Monday at the M&T Bank Arena in Schenectady.
Shenendehowa faces Burnt Hills. who was the second highest ranked in the bracket.
Players say they are confident for the rest of the play off season.
Liam Smith, a defensive player of the varsity teams states, “I’m very much looking forward to the ending of the season. The playoffs are going to be a mental struggle for the team, we know that everyone is out to get us as we have held the number one spot in the section all year.”
The team’s record was 13-0 in the regular season which gave them the number one seed in the bracket going into playoffs.

“Every team wants a piece, and to prove that they can compete against, and even beat us,” said Smith. “Given this, we have to give it our all and be ready at puck drop every game or it will come back to bite us.”
The head coach Juan de la Rocha said he hopes the team can “just play our game.”
“We’ve got to understand that they’re gunning for us and trying their hardest,” de la Rocha said. “If we can maintain good defense and good goal scoring, which I am confident we will be able to do, we should have a successful outcome.”
Section II Hockey Championship game will take place Monday at 7:10 p.m. at the M&T Bank Arena
