The Shenendehowa football team has a record of 3-1 in the league so far, seeing more wins than losses this season.
The team has competed against some of the highest and lowest ranked competitors in the Section II A league, and faced Schenectady High School this past Friday, Oct. 10.
The team won the game with a score of 54-0 against the Schenectady Patriots and won on their home field for this year’s Shen Homecoming.
According to Shen defensive end Aj Ricci, the win felt “electric.”
Homecoming is a big deal for Shen High School, involving a pep rally the day of the game, a Friday night football game to show school spirit and a formal dance the previous Saturday.
For most at Shen, homecoming is a tradition that many partake in and look forward to every year. For the players, it’s a chance to play in front of one of the biggest crowds of the season.
Shen football seniors said that the homecoming game was a positive and bittersweet experience.
According to Senior captain Noah Schreiner, the seniors sitting on the field help them by hyping them up.
“I really enjoy all the seniors that are behind the endzone, cheering us on and I enjoy the student section hyping us up,” he said.
Ricci agrees with Schreiner.
“Seniors being on the field really adds something cool to the game. That only happens at, like, once a year,” he said.
Senior running back Carter Toth said that it being their last homecoming changed what it meant to the players.
“Um, well, like, it was homecoming so I guess it meant more,” he said.
