Senior night for Shenendehowa Baseball Class of 2025 was held Monday, May 19 at Plainsmen Park in a non-league game against Christian Brothers Academy. Shen went on to lose the game 3-0.
Originally scheduled for Saturday against Ballston Spa, senior festivities got rescheduled due to rain. The weather has been a big factor this season with many cancellations and delays.
As of late the weather has begun to impact their season tremendously according to senior Josh Soroka. “We have had to cancel a lot of games in just a week, but we know how to handle situations like that so we aren’t too affected by it.”
For a majority of the seniors this is their last season playing competitive baseball. Although some will continue their athletic careers in college.
Captain Brad Curtis will be playing at the division 1 level at Siena College, while others will be playing at St. John Fisher and Suny Plattsburgh.
“It’s a mix of emotions. It’s exciting that we are heading into the playoff season but there’s also disappointment since it is going to be over at some point because I’m not playing baseball in college,” said Soroka.
Shen played their last regular season game Monday but they look to continue their season on Wednesday when Section 2 play-offs begin.
Junior and first year varsity baseball player Andrew Redick says, “It’s really sad. I grew a big bond with them over the course of one season and hanging out with them all the time. It was really fun.”
“It makes me kinda sad playing for that long with a great group of guys and coaches so it is sad to see it end,” said Senior catcher Aiden Thielke.
