HEADLINE: Seniors Celebrate Future Path Day, But Chalk Day Delay Draws Mixed Reactions
Shen seniors celebrated their future choices after high school at the start of this month. Labeled as Future Path Day, this seniors wore shirts that showed off their future plans post graduation, whether that be going to college, the military, or trade.
“It was so fun to see all the seniors wearing their college shirts,” Jake Han, a senior, said. “It feels even more real that we’re all graduating and going to different places now.”
Unlike past years, however, Chalk Day, where seniors go outside during lunch to draw their respective college logos, was postponed due to weather and will now be held during Senior Week, which starts on June 9.
“It feels stupid that Chalk Day is a month later. The feelings just aren’t the same,” Michael Case, another senior said. “It’s like everyone knows where people are going so the effect and excitement has worn off at this point.”
Aside from Chalk Day, there will be another special event for seniors during Senior Week.
“From what I heard, something else we get to do during Senior Week is choosing our own lunch meals. But I’m not sure,” Han continued. “Apparently you can choose at the cafeteria what you want to eat but it sounds complicated making that many different meals.”
Despite the skepticism faced by the class of 2025’s Class Council for moving Chalk Day, the decision was made with a specific purpose in mind.
“We changed it because we wanted to have something planned for June 9 for Spirit Week,” Alexis Hernaez, vice president of Class Council, said.
