The Shen girls lacrosse team has been preparing for their senior night since the beginning of the season. The girls have been working hard on the turf, earning a 7-7 record and hoping to gain another win on their senior night.
Shenendehowa will play Burnt hills Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m. The two teams had an exciting match up last year, with Shen only winning by one goal in double overtime.
“We both have completely different teams this year so it will be interesting to see how we match up,” said senior Claire Campana.
Senior night is a bittersweet ceremony for the athletes. While the seniors are excited to be recognized for their contributions to the team and for their future, there’s also a sense of sadness as they prepare to leave their teammates.
“Growing up watching the other seniors be recognized, it is surreal to think that we are now those seniors,” said senior Carys Petrie.
Senior festivities start at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony will be held on Shen’s home turf. During the ceremony every Senior will be individually announced as they take the field with their families. Notes from teammates will be read aloud and memories will be shared over the loudspeaker.
“It is really nice to be recognized for all of our hard work and share what we have accomplished on and off the field,” said captain, Molly Shanahan
Overall, excitement is high tonight as they look forward to a competitive game.
“I’m hoping for a competitive game because the more the competition the better it feels to win and the better the senior night,” said senior, Claire Campana.
