The non-affiliated Shenendehowa Senior Assassin has begun its annual tradition again, starting on April 21.
Senior Assassin is a competitive manhunt game through the use of water guns to eliminate people. Participants wear safety items, like goggles and floaties, which guarantee immunity. Each person is given a random person to eliminate in a week’s time, otherwise they are eliminated. After each elimination they are given a new target
The class of 2025’s game started with 264 students, after one round it dropped to 94. This year the class of 2025 implemented the new Splashin app, created for the ease of use to play the game.
“I think it is pretty convenient to let everyone know things at the same time,” says Senior Colin Thompson.
However some people have believed the game, and the use of the Splashin app created drama and has been annoying. Senior Allison Bieniek says “There have definitely been some problems within our grade in the app. Many people have been fighting a lot.”
There have been safety precautions to help make sure this game runs smoothly, like no shooting inside the school, practice, or places of work.
“The concern is when you have people in a competitive setting, there are [water] guns involved, and when you reflect on what the game is it kind of has this undertone of competitiveness with a mocking violent theme, leading to danger” says Mr. Verga, Shen Assistant Principal.
Many students have been taking this game very seriously, in hopes to win the game by the end. According to senior and game host Dylan Ethier, there is an $800 prize for the winner.
“The $800 dollar prize pool is pretty motivating for this Senior class,” he said. “It is going to get real competitive and interesting towards the end.”
