Eleven boys from the Swim and Dive Team will compete Saturday to see who is the best swimmer in New York State.
“In order to qualify you have to be the number one person in your event so you have to place first at Sectionals, or you have to place under a certain time in order to qualify,” says Danny Killian, state qualifier.
Going into the weekend’s meet, the boys are ranked third in the state.
“There’s a team that will win states and there’s a team that will be ranked number one in the state. Those are two different things. You win states based on the number of points your team earned at the state’s meet. Your overall ranking in the state is determined by your success during your season overall,” says Danny Killian.
Practices leading up to the meet have looked a little different.
“We’ve been double tapering, so this week we’ve been upping yardage to build on our endurance. Next week we will be lowering yardage to ensure we’re in our best shape,” says Cooper Simmons.
While the team is unsure what the end results of states will look like, they still have high hopes that they can rank top three in New York State.
“It’s bittersweet that this will be my last appearance at states but it has been a long time coming,” says Conner Rudd.
