Shenendehowa’s Student Faculty Administration (SFA) Senate is currently working on planning the 2024 Homecoming dance. This year’s theme is At Last I See The Light, inspired by the Disney princess film, Tangled. The dance is planned for Oct. 19.
“I’m really excited because the theme is actually decent this year,” said Bella Sweitzer, the President of SFA Senate.
“It was supposed to be the theme last year, but due to complications with safety, we weren’t able to do it,” Sweitzer said.. The issue was that they could not purchase actual lanterns or proper lighting, as it might’ve been a safety hazard, but Senate plans to purchase fake lanterns this year.
“We have Mr. John Conover as our DJ this year, who is absolutely incredible and we have a student band playing. As of right now, we plan on throwing one heck of a party,” says Ms. Conway, Shenendehowa Economics Teacher and SFA Senate Advisor.
Sweitzer described the band-Proxima Centauri- as, “a little bit more heavy metal,” comparing it to the student band who played last year.
Ms. Conway says that tickets will be sold on GoFan.com this year for $15 each. She also states that anyone who experiences an issue with purchasing tickets on Gofan should speak with her.
“We just passed a bill for $2,500,” says Daniel Lifshitz, SFA Senate Treasurer, speaking about the budget for this year’s Homecoming dance. He says the budget will cover chaperones, food, music, and decorations.
There will also be a homecoming spirit rally before the football game that Lifshitz, Sweitzer, and Conway all say they are very excited about.
“We are very excited about receiving permission through the superintendent’s office to continue using our horse,” says Conway.
Conway and Sweitzer both say that they have been granted permission to continue using the green horse mascot costume to promote school spirit during the football games. So it is safe to say we will still be seeing it at the homecoming football game as well as the spirit rally.
