This year’s Shenendehowa Drama Production is the Diary of Anne Frank, a much anticipated production.
“It’s a very great show. Very exciting to put on,” Raiah Sandman, the drama club’s Set Crew and Marketing manager said.
This play covers a multitude of heavy topics, and is at certain points “very intense but also funny,” according to Sandman.
Stage manager Cora Szakmary said, “[the play] highlights the story of Anne Frank, a real life Jewish girl and what happened to her” during the Holocaust, and walks the audience through the intensity of this topic.
Drama club members say there are many reasons why people should come watch the play. Not only is it “an important story in history,” explained Mr. Lotano, Director of Shen Drama club, “it’s also a great dramatic work that’s been adapted multiple times.”
Szakmary also said “it’s a play that needs to be told about. A lot more people could learn stuff about it and it’s really something that speaks out.”
According to Mr. Lotano, he and Assistant Director Mr. Kott chose to put on this production because the club has, “[…] done a lot of comedy in the past few years and are looking to do something more serious.”
“As you know, the drama faces are tragedy and comedy, so I thought to give the students involved in the club a different experience,” said Mr. Lotano.
As for the cast and crew, Sophia Spiegel, Vice President and actress of the drama club, reports, “the cast has been bonding super well.”
Agreeing with her, Treasurer of the club and Actress Molly Hurley says that the cast has created, “[…] a really good environment this year.”
Actor Quin Dewan said that the show is expected to premiere on Oct. 25 and will run Oct. 26, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
As Mr. Lotano confidently declared, “Everyone’s gonna eat.”
