The annual Shenendehowa Senior prom is coming up. The prom always has a theme to it. This year the theme is “Under the Stars.”
The themes are made so prom is more enjoyable, but some students have different opinions about the theme this year.
“The prom theme is pretty repetitive and boring. That was the theme for the homecoming dance at the beginning of the year, and it wasn’t too intriguing because of how many times that theme has been done” said Alivia Cochran, senior, who is attending the prom.
Prom is one of the most exciting events of the school year for juniors and seniors at Shenendehowa High School, but the past couple of years students have been talking about how they don’t really like the idea of a theme.
Senior Charlotte Garrett, attending the prom, pitched in on her opinion. “None of the themes ever make sense, the students should be able to wear whatever dresses or tuxedos they want without having to worry about if it matches the theme or not.” Garnett said she had attended last year’s prom and had also mentioned that students weren’t even allowed to participate in last year’s theme, Masquerade, because there was a policy that the students weren’t allowed to wear the masks that match the theme.
Ever since that happened at last year’s prom students have been very iffy about themes, and have talked about how it should just be a normal, big event without anything specific.
“The prom themes are pretty basic and they lack creativity, the options should alternate every year if there really needs to be a theme, otherwise it should just be a normal prom where everybody dresses up and has a great time with their friends.” said Cadence Turner, senior.
