The 2024 Shen boy’s basketball senior night ended with a big win against Albany with a final score of 65-61.
Families, students, and faculty filled the gym, attending the ceremony and cheering on the boys for their big game.
Thirty minutes before jump ball, the ceremony began aswith each senior player announced with their families, walking onto the court for a picture together.
Shen Co-captain, Miles Peterson, said “It was really nice to all be together and get called out for one of our last games. I feel like the team from when I was an 8th grader flew by so fast. Many people talk about how exciting it is being a senior, but it’s sad knowing that soon we won’t be playing hoops together like we’ve always been.”
Seven seniors were recognized during the ceremony, all with heartwarming smiles beaming from their proud families.
Before the game started, the head coach of the boy’s basketball team, Paul Yattaw gave the boy’s a quick pep talk to boost their confidence. Any sport involves a mental block, and Coach Yattaw said, “To prepare the boy’s for a basketball game, I want to ensure they are prepared both physically and mentally. They have the skills and training they need, and of course they’re always trying to improve, but the boy’s just got to go out there and show them up,”
After a team huddle, the boy’s walked on, prepared to take on the Albany Falcons.
Senior Noah Renzi started the game up with a three point shot a minute into the game and the crowd went wild. Everybody knew this game was going to be exciting and a close one.
“It’s pretty nice to have a crowd and to have a big audience, the boys like it and we sort of play better,” said Renzi.
went back and forth from both teams. By halftime the score was 25-21 Shen. As the boys jogged back onto the court you could feel the tension in the air and the want of a team win
As the fourth quarter came to an end the players were put in their all. With a few seconds left on the clock, and the score 62-61, Shen scored a three pointer to secure a win.
Running onto the court, the boys felt victorious.
