If you’re looking for a new place to walk, bike, bird watch, or see different animals, the Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve is a beautiful area in Clifton Park, featuring multiple trails. Even driving past the location, there are often a great deal of cars in the parking area.
The preserve features a reconstructed Whipple truss bridge that is admired by its community and people visiting the area. This is the most popular entrance to the preserve, and it is located across from the intersection of Riverview Road and Van Vranken Road. There is a small parking area where you can leave your vehicle and then head into the preserve. A bike rack and picnic area are available at the site.
The Mohawk river beneath the bridge is coated in a thick layer of algae, which I noticed almost immediately. Despite the state of the water, I still stop to take a picture. Walking further down the open gravel path, I see different trails labeled with sightseeing options.
Even the most beautiful hiking trail can’t compete against the community built within the Vischer Ferry trail. The location is well respected, with no signs of littering anywhere, and as I pass by others, I see they too are invested in the eye-catching nature. Not only is the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve pleasing to look at, it’s also an even better way to bring its community together.
